LeBron James

Trae Young dazzled under the bright lights in Milwaukee on Wednesday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. As his Atlanta Hawks tried to continue their magical run through the postseason, the 22-year-old All Star shouldered the load against the favored Bucks.

Young dropped an astounding 37 points through the first three quarters on Wednesday night, connecting on shots from all over the court. He added eight assists and was clearly feeling himself in Fiserv Forum as he shimmied after crossing up Jrue Holiday late in the third quarter. He then connected on a deep three to put the Hawks up by eight.

NBA fans loved what they saw from the young point guard in his first conference finals series, but one of the biggest compliments came from LeBron James. The Los Angeles Lakers star had his fair share of deep playoff runs in his 20’s so can obviously relate to Young’s experience.

Like many others, The King was impressed with the 22-year-old Hawks point guard.

“CHILL THE HELL OUT MAN!!” James tweeted during Game 1 on Wednesday.

Young found himself sharing the company of James with his performance on Wednesday night. The Hawks point guard became just the third player, 22 years old or younger, to have seven 30+ point games in a single postseason with his outburst in Game 1.

Players 22 years old or younger to have at least 7 30+ point games in a single postseason:

– LeBron James (2006)

– Amar'e Stoudemire (2005)

– Trae Young (2021)

With his diverse shot-making ability, Young took advantage of the Bucks defensive scheme to drop Brook Lopez into the paint on high screen-and-roll sets. The Hawks point guard could then either pull-up for a deep three-pointer, or take the space to penetrate and throw up his patented floater.

Even with Young’s scoring outburst, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks put up a tough opposing effort and the teams headed late into the fourth quarter neck-and-neck.

Catch the finish of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on TNT.
